ELECTION POLL WORKERS
An election poll worker is someone who works at the voting polls to ensure voters are able to exercise their right in a fair and professional way. The Canvassing Board (Appointing Board) appoints elections poll workers for county, state, and federal elections only. Municipal election poll workers are coordinated by the municipality.
POLL WORKER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be registered to vote in the state of Alabama
- Must be registered to vote at the precinct in which they desire to act as a poll worker
- Each poll worker must attend a mandatory poll worker training.
- Cannot be a member of a candidate’s immediate family or the second degree of kinship, and cannot be a member of a candidate’s political committee
To be considered as an election poll worker for county state, or federal elections, please fill out the Poll Worker Application and submit according to the directions provided. COMPENSATION FOR ELECTION WORKERS
Supervisor – $175.00
Inspectors – $125.00
Assistants – $100.00
Workers who attend the school of instruction class will receive an additional $25.00. For information and dates on training classes, please call 205-464-8487.
STUDENT ELECTION WORKERS
Under Alabama Act 2019-476 signed by Governor Ivey, students ages 16 or older may serve as a volunteer election worker with the recommendation of their principal or other school official. Under the Act, students who complete their shift will be entitled to an excused absence from school. For more information, please call 205-464-8314.
