The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance of roads, bridges, and related structures throughout the county. The department is continuously participating in ongoing construction projects that are made possible by both local and government funding.
The shop is responsible for the maintenance of all county vehicles.
The bridge department is one of very few departments in the state that builds its own pre-cast bridge components for county funded bridges.
Two “mosquito trucks” conduct the seasonal spraying program, usually from April through September.
The Cedar Cove maintenance unit is responsible for road maintenance in District 2 and District 3.
The Coker maintenance unit is responsible for road maintenance in District 1 and District 4.
To report a problem or request work for a county maintained road or bridge, please call 205-345-6600, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please provide the following when you call:
- Your name
- The address of the problem, if available
- If no address is available, provide any landmarks near the problem area (cross streets, creeks, buildings, etc.)
- A detailed description of the problem
