Tuscaloosa City Schools
The Tuscaloosa City Schools provides instruction to more than 10,000 Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade students throughout metropolitan Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Twenty-four schools comprise the district, including 13 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 3 high schools and two campuses dedicated to specialty education: one for students with special needs and those receiving alternative education, and a career technical facility for grades 9 – 12. More than 1,300 dedicated employees serve the community by challenging students to a curriculum to exceed the expectations of every student in our 24 campuses from the first day of school to their graduation day. Shelton State Community College uses criteria of Graduation and Retention Rates, Course Completion Rates, Job Placement Rates, and State Licensing Examinations to evaluate student achievement. The planning goals address the importance of student success, documenting an ongoing concern for the success of students. Assessment of these criteria allows Shelton State Community College to evaluate success within the context of its mission. Evaluation of the performance of graduates on licensing examinations, job placement rates, and course completion, and graduation rates relate to the College’s mission of providing quality, customer-driven educational opportunities. These measures are reasonable and appropriate to Shelton State Community College because these are commonly acceptable measures in higher education across the state and the nation.

Since 1871, the Tuscaloosa County School System has provided educational opportunities for students that currently number about 18,000. The system’s facilities include 34 schools: two primary schools, seventeen elementary schools, eight middle schools, six high schools, and one center for special needs students.
The mission of the Tuscaloosa County School System is to educate and empower all students to be college and career ready graduates – prepared to make positive contributions to our global society. Our beliefs are:

During its most recent district accreditation process, AdvancEd commended the system for having a “laser-like focus” on the instructional program. The review noted that the system makes effective analysis and use of data, is committed to curriculum alignment, revision, and works to recruit and develop a high quality professional staff.

Stillman is a 4 year co-educational, historically black liberal arts institution, committed to fostering academic excellence and providing high quality educational opportunities for diverse populations with disparate levels of academic preparation. The College received a U.S. News and World Report ranking of 25th in Best Southern Comprehensive Colleges for 2006-2007. Stillman enrolls an average of 1000 students who are taught and inspired by 72 full and part-time faculty members.
